Missouri G&T Assists Five Member Distribution Systems with Selecting NISC to Provide Utility IT and Software Solutions
Central Electric Power Cooperative (Central), a generation and transmission (G&T) organization based in Jefferson City, Mo., provided technical evaluation and support to five of its member distribution systems that have selected National Information Solutions Cooperative (NISC) to provide utility software and related IT services. The five distribution systems joining NISC are:
- Callaway Electric Cooperative, Fulton, Mo.
- Central Missouri Electric Cooperative, Sedalia, Mo.
- Consolidated Electric Co-op Association, Mexico, Mo.
- Howard Electric Co-op Association, Fayette, Mo.
- Three Rivers Electric Cooperative, Linn, Mo.
In 2010, the G&T and the five electric co-ops began an investigation of other utility software solutions. Four Central members ultimately decided to replace the G&T-supported legacy systems and the fifth decided to replace another vendor’s system. The G&T and its members worked with NISC to determine opportunities for operational efficiency and customer service improvements through the use of NISC’s iVUE® software system.
Vern Dosch, NISC’s CEO, said that over the past several months, NISC and the Central staff reviewed iVUE and discussed the co-op’s needs. “In its evaluation, there was no doubting Central’s support of its members. Its staff put a strong emphasis on helping them migrate to the best software solution,” Dosch said. “We are pleased and proud that Central and its members selected NISC. We pledge to carry on the G&T’s dedication to excellent service and support.”
Dosch said the process of moving to NISC software will start this fall. “In addition to providing each distribution system with software, training and service, we believe there are opportunities to continue our partnership with Central and its members to bring additional services, efficiency and innovation to its system,” he said. He added that Central will continue to provide network, data center hosting and related services to its members.
Don Shaw, Central’s CEO and general manager, said that his organization was pleased to have provided its members valuable software services over the years, “but we recognize that the industry is moving quickly and investments in research and development are increasing,” he said. “Our partnership with NISC connects us into better economies of scale, and Central and its members will have access to software and technical solutions that contribute to our constant drive to enhance service and operational efficiency.”
The partnership with Central is one example of NISC’s efforts with power suppliers and their distribution members to provide system-wide software solutions. NISC’s Meter Data Management System, its Demand Response Program and its Outage Management software have the ability to enhance overall operational efficiencies and improve system integration with benefits for both distribution system and power supplier.
