The Western Telecommunications Alliance (WTA) aims to unite a diverse industry in the western states for the purpose of advocating the telecom interests of rural Americans before federal and state regulators and the United States Congress. WTA is an organization that resulted from the merger of The Rocky Mountain Telecommunications Association (RMTA) and Western Rural Telephone Association (WRTA). The restructuring of the two associations brings more than 105 years of combined history and service to rural telephone companies operating west of the Mississippi River. Western Telecommunication Alliance members are generally small local exchange carriers serving sparsely populated rural areas. Most members serve less than 3000 access lines overall, and less than 500 access lines per exchange. Western Telecommunications Alliance aims to unite a diverse industry to deliver influence in the western states and in Washington D.C. that reflects our member importance in providing high quality telecommunications services for rural Americans.
